Have you ever submitted a grant request that you thought was perfect only to find out that you were rejected? It’s easy to feel down after these circumstances but, as the old saying goes, if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.
Or in this case, apply, apply again.
As Alan Silver wrote in “How to Win Grants,” you should not hesitate to resubmit your grant request despite the pain of rejection. Before you do this, however, you should find ways to improve your application. Silver suggests the following three tips:
- Depending on how good a job you think you did, you can make either major or minimal changes to make your application more competitive. Make sure to check the grant guidelines before you re-submit, to ensure nothing has changed.
- Submit your application to another funder after having adapted it to meet their requirements.
- You can rethink and redesign your project and submit it to the same or another funder. This is what you do when you reach the conclusion that your original project design was flawed.
