You’ve captured the interest of a new donor and they gave to your cause. After you’ve said ‘thank you’ you might be wondering, now what? In the age of social media, giving is more social than ever. Turning your donors into your fundraisers is the key to acquiring new names and spreading the word about your organization.
Presented by Caryn Stein, vice president of content and communications at Network for Good, Brandi Powell, director of development and community relations at Interfaith Works, and Mary Jo Bean, assistant director of development at Interfaith Works during the Bridge to Integrated Marketing Conference in National Harbor, Md., “The Secret to Turning Donors into Fundraisers” addressed the best ways to take advantage of peer to peer fundraising and its growing popularity.
Some of the secrets they revealed were:
- Giving is social. People want to give to others because it makes them feel connected and builds their social network.
- Creating event-specific events that require personal fundraising, such as races or event-specific, fundraising related events, such as galas give people a platform to speak about your organization and engage others in their own social network.
- When seeking out fundraisers, give them a good example to strive towards such as a board member or an influential community member.
- Focus on what your fundraisers know. Their passion, network, and habits can all help you spread your message further.
- Remember to have a plan for training, motivating, and thanking your fundraisers.
- The right message for peer-to-peer fundraising will be specific, personal, urgent and emotional.
- Have a built in method to collect and track information about your fundraisers and donors for future campaigns.
