McGinly To Head Gobel Education

William C. McGinly has a new gig. A month before he will retire president and CEO of Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), he was announced as the new president of Gobel Education effective July 1.

McGinly served as head of AHP for 30 years before he announced in October of last year that he would step down on June 30. He will head Gobel Education, a new initiative of the Rochester, N.Y.-based Gobel Group. The company will seek to build a “culture of gratitude” at the nation’s hospitals by teaching clinicians, other hospitals employees and board members how to recognize and accept gratitude, and how to help a patient express gratitude. This will be done through educational programs that will be customized for individual audiences. The philosophy behind these teachings is that it will enhance the philanthropic process at hospitals.

“Bill McGinly is recognized internationally as the foremost expert in healthcare philanthropy, and has been responsible for transforming our profession over the last three decades,” said Chad Gobel, founder and CEO of Gobel Group. “I am so honored Bill chose the Gobel Group to continue his transformational work, now leading Gobel Education and helping hospitals educate clinicians in the philanthropic process.”

McGinly has 40 years working in the nonprofit sector and has mentored thousands of healthcare development professionals around the globe, advocating that they adopt sound business practices to earn the respect and cooperation of medical staff leaders and C-suite executives of health care organizations. He has been selected 15 times to The NonProfit Times Power and Influence Top 50 from 1998-2012.

“With so much change in healthcare overall, our profession is going to have to continue to evolve to stay relevant and strategic to our hospitals,” said McGinly. “I believe the engagement of physicians and other medical staff will be the key to growth in our development programs for the future. From my perspective, the Gobel Group is the leader in this work, and I was humbled when Chad asked me to join his team and launch this new educational endeavor.”

The Gobel Group is a health care philanthropic services firm working internationally to help clients realize their programmatic goals through strategic work in physician engagement, communications, video and educational sessions. The company has worked with nearly 100 hospitals over its three-year history.
