Foundation Puts $300K Up For Grabs

Nonprofit leaders are being invited to throw their organizations’ hats in the race for one of five grants being distributed by the LIDS Foundation, totaling $300,000. The charitable arm of Indianapolis, Ind.- based LIDS Sports Group, a sports and fan gear retailer, the foundation has gifted a total of $840,000 since 2012 through it’s “Tip the Hat Award.”

Applications for the foundation’s 2017 “Tip of the Hat Award” are being accepted through Nov. 13, 2016. Entrant programs should be focused on sports-related activities, healthy living or leadership and growth opportunities.

“Both the LIDS Foundation and the LIDS Sports Group recognize the importance of uplifting and rewarding those who are shaping today’s youth into tomorrow’s leaders,” said Glenn Campbell, LIDS co-founder and LIDS Foundation board member, via an announcement. “This grant program is our most significant philanthropic initiative, and we always look forward to learning about and rewarding the admirable work of organizations impacting the lives and futures of children throughout the country.”

First prize program will be awarded $125,000, followed by $75,000 for second place and $50,000 for third. Fourth and fifth place will each be granted $25,000.

All entries will be reviewed by foundation representatives and five finalists will be selected in January. The prize level of each of the five organizations will then turn over to a fan vote. Winners will be notified following the fan vote in March and will be celebrated at LIDS’ annual “Blue Carpet” event in Indianapolis in April.
