Even a great argument for funding won’t bring in a grant award unless reviewers understand your point. “A clear, active writing style is important,” said Barbara Floersch, executive director of The Grantsmanship Center in Los Angeles, Calif. “And because you’ve got to deliver so much detailed information, strong formatting can keep concepts clear and help readers follow your logic.”

Perceived Personal Impact Motivates Big Donors
High net worth donors are most often motivated by the opportunity to make a difference, according to a study recently cited by the Fundraising Resource Group. The study, “The 2014 U.S. Trust Study of High Net Worth Philanthropy,” also listed “personal satisfaction,” as the second-highest motivating factor, said to motivate givers just more than 73 percent of the time. Making a difference was cited as a factor in 74 percent of participants’ giving.
More is more, especially when it comes to reaching out to potential donors. That was the theme of a recent presentation, “Building Your Multi-Channel Campaigns,” given by three non-profit executives at the 11th annual Bridge to Integrated Marketing and Fundraising Conference, held in July in National Harbor, Md.
