Chris Bernard and Andrea Berry, senior editor and director of partnerships and learning, respectively, at the nonprofit technology organization Idealware in Portland, Maine, suggest that the traditional forms of thanks translate well to online or technology-enhanced techniques and save staff time on fundraising.

In her book "Writing to Make a Difference" Dalya F. Massachi goes beyond composition basics, however, to offer insights for nonprofits spreading a message. Speaking during an Association of Fundraising Professionals international conference, consultant Cynthia Peak Hoffmann discussed databases and the types that are helpful to nonprofits. She said that there are certain criteria that should be used by organizations when deciding on how to use or purchase a database.
