Principal duties: The Development Specialist will report to the Director of the UW Eye Research Institute (ERI) and will have lead responsibility, in collaboration with UW Foundation staff, for directing Eye Research Institute fundraising initiatives. 1) Create an overall development strategy to raise funds for the Eye Research Institute. 2) Design and implement a major fundraising strategy to bring in resources of at least $1 million over the next two years. 3) Work closely with the Director to identify, cultivate and solicit existing donors and new giving prospects. 4) Plan and conduct visits and other ongoing contacts to build relationships with donors, corporations, and foundations, effectively presenting the case for philanthropic support and explaining giving opportunities. 5) Design strategies to strengthen existing and promote new relationships between the Eye Research Institute and key donors, corporations and foundations. 6) Plan and implement recognition for donors, including writing thank you letters, making personal calls, arranging meetings, hosting events, preparing press releases, etc. 7) Manage the ERI donor database to ensure all donations are properly tracked and reconciled with UW Foundation reports and database. 8) Undertake fundraising for grants for particular events or projects that target Eye Research Institute mission and goals. Seek funding for special areas of research in consultation with the ERI Director. 9) Serve as the primary liaison with both current and emeritus members of the Eye Research Institute Advisory Board, coordinating biannual meetings, correspondence, and activities.
