It’s that time of year, holiday music, presents and new jobs. Four high-profile jobs changed hands during the past few days.
Holly Ross, a leader in the nonprofit tech community and executive director of the Nonprofit Technology Network (NTEN) since 2003, is leaving the organization to head the Drupal Association. Both are based on Portland, Ore.
The Drupal Association is an organization dedicated to helping the open-source Drupal CMS community with funding, infrastructure, education, promotion, distribution and online collaboration. Funding to support programs and association staff is from memberships, supporting partners, sponsorships, donations, and volunteers.
NTEN is a membership organization of nonprofit technology professionals. Members share the common goal of helping nonprofits use all aspects of technology more effectively for greater social impact. While many association annual conferences have been on the decline, NTEN’s has consistently sold out.
Ross said her last day is Jan. 31. NTEN Chief Operating Officer Jill Farrow is the interim executive director while the board begins its search, Ross said.
Ross has been honored as one of The NonProfit Times’ Power and Influence Top 50 four times, in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. Holly is also editor of “Managing Technology to Meet Your Mission: A Strategic Guide for Nonprofit Leaders” and has written a chapter in “Nonprofit Management 101: A Complete and Practical Guide for Leaders and Professionals,” both available from Jossey-Bass. She has also been a contributing editor to The NonProfit Times.
Thomas A. McDonnell was announced as the new president and chief executive officer at Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation in Kansas City, Mo.
McDonnell, an experienced business leader with a track record of building global organizations, recently stepped down as chief executive officer of DST Systems, Inc., also in Kansas City. He has been a Kauffman trustee since 2003 and chairman of the board since 2006.
McDonnell succeeds Carl Schramm, who served as the foundation’s president and CEO from 2002 to 2011. Kauffman trustee Benno Schmidt has served as interim chief executive officer since this past January while the board conducted a national search for a new leader.
The American Lung Association announced the appointment of Harold Wimmer as its president and chief executive officer. Wimmer has served in that role for the American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest, serving Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. He has led the fundraising, mission work, strategic planning and positioning of this leading voluntary public health organization in this region.
Wimmer began his career with the American Lung Association of Illinois 34 years ago. Following the merger of the Illinois and Iowa Lung Associations, he served as the CEO for 15 years. He was a key part of the process to merge seven states into what is now the American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest, which he has served as president and chief executive officer since its creation.
He will assume the position on February 1. Adrienne Glasgow, who has been serving as interim executive vice president and chief operating officer will return to the position of the American Lung Association’s chief financial officer.
Kate Dewey was appointed president of the Forbes Funds, an affiliate of The Pittsburgh Foundation in Pittsburgh, Pa. She will take up her position on January 1.
Dewy has worked in and around the nonprofit sector for more than 30 years, including extensive consulting work that she has undertaken through a company she co-founded in 1990, Dewey & Kaye. Through mergers this is now part of ParenteBeard LLC, with whom Dewey currently serves as principal.
She will lead the on-going strategic development of the Forbes Funds, which provides management assistance and technical expertise to the region’s nonprofit organizations, primarily those serving human services. In collaboration with the Greater Pittsburgh Nonprofit Partnership (GPNP), the Forbes Funds also develops advocacy initiatives to help represent the charitable sector.
Dewey succeeds Diana Bucco who is becoming a vice president at The Buhl Foundation, also in Pittsburgh.
