Ron Calissi, Esq., executive associate dean and director of the School of Administrative Science at Fairleigh Dickenson University’s Petrocelli College, died after suffering a heart attack last week. He was 69.
In addition to his work at the school’s Madison, N.J. campus, he also served on the board of governors. Calissi was a member of the United Nations NGO Committee on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and a member of the New Jersey Supreme Court Committee on Minority Concerns, according to the university.
Calissi oversaw four graduate level programs at FDU, administrative science, sports administration, Homeland Security and student services administration. The former director of the Bergen County Department of Public Safety, he was also a former Bergen County Sheriff’s Officer, Prosecutor’s Investigator and Special State Investigator with the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice
Calissi’s career spanned 30 years in state and county government, public safety education, financial and estate planning, and executive coaching. His achievements and recognitions include FDU’s Pinnacle Award, Outstanding Service Award and Public Administration Institute Special Award. A New Jersey State Senate resolution recognized his service and leadership and he also received an Education Award from ASIS International and Law Enforcement Award from the Police Honor Legion of New Jersey.
His wife, Deborah A. Fredericks, is FDU’s Associate Dean, Continuing Education and Learning Outcomes Assessment, Petrocelli College of Continuing Studies.
A memorial service was held on Sept. 28 at Vander Platt-Vermeulen Memorial Home in Franklin Lakes, N.J.
