Aplos, Portalbuzz Announce Deal

Nonprofit software firm Aplos Software and member management provider Portalbuzz have merged, according to an announcement from the firms. Terms of the deal were not disclosed but comes roughly a year after Aplos’s announcement of its Series A funding of $4 million.
The merged company, which will operate under the Aplos name, will focus on the development of a unified software platform that meets the front and back-office operations of nonprofits.
Aplos was founded by Tim Goetz in 2009 and focused originally on the creation of fund accounting software for nonprofits. Portalbuzz was started in 2005 by Scott Smith, who also served for nine years as the chief technical officer of Kiwanis International. According to Eric Nasalroad, chief operating officer at Apols, Goetz and Smith met a few years ago and stayed in touch.
Smith will stay with the firm as vice president of product, according to a release from the firm. While the deal closed in February, the organizations waited to make an announcement.
During the past five years, Aplos has expanded its platform to include specialized back-office features such as online donations, communications, donation tracking and a robust donor database, making it one of the nonprofit industry’s most popular solutions. Portalbuzz is primarily within service clubs as a member management platform. The system’s capabilities include a web builder, member invoicing, event registration, and a member portal to manage groups and volunteer sign-ups.
