AFP Opens Philanthropy Award Nominations

Nominations are now open for the 2015 National Philanthropy Day Honors — the international awards program that recognizes extraordinary generosity and commitment from donors, volunteers, foundations, businesses and young people.

National Philanthropy Day, sponsored by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and celebrated every year on Nov. 15, is the day set aside to recognize the amazing accomplishments that philanthropy — and everyone involved in the philanthropic process — has made to our world.

Anyone can submit a nomination in the following six categories: Philanthropist, Volunteer Fundraiser, Corporation, Foundation and Youth (two awards, Individual and Group).

Nominations must take the form of a short, “selfie” video (a person talking to the camera about the impact the nominee has made). No bells, whistles, special formatting or gimmicks are needed. Just speak from the heart about how your nominee is changing the world.

Videos must be uploaded to the AFP awards website, http://awards.afpresources.org, by Feb. 16. More information about the National Philanthropy Day Honors can be found there.

Public voting on the video nominations will begin in March to narrow the number of nominees in each category to three. The AFP Awards Committee will make the final decision, and honorees will be recognized at the National Philanthropy Day Honors event in New York City in November.

Even nominees that aren’t selected will be recognized in special ways throughout the year as part of the National Philanthropy Day® campaign to recognize outstanding philanthropy and generosity from people from around the world.

“Everyone can be a philanthropist and make a difference,” said AFP President and CEO Andrew Watt, FInstF. “There is extraordinary and unsung generosity that happens every day. We encourage everyone to submit a nomination even if it’s yourself so we can inspire others to help change the world.”
