Piling up Facebook likes and Twitter followers is nice, but managers might be looking to take their online presence to the next level.

During the recent 2015 National Catholic Development Conference, Rob Faughnan, director of stewardship and development at the Diocese of Colorado Springs, Colo., Gary Hawkins, corporate vice president for CCS in Dallas, Texas, and Lesley Snyder, director of digital strategy and corporate staffing at CCS, presented “Beyond the Like” and shared eight online best practices.

Those ideas included:

Keep content simple and consistent;

Brand your social media pages;

Interact, integrate, engage and cross populate content;

Post regularly;

Make it easy for people to share your content;

Take advantage of social media management tools;

Capitalize on major events such as text-to-pledge at a gala, press mentions and high profile, mission-related events; and,

Be aware of risks. Specifically, understand the liability for information posted online and not having the internal resources to manage the organization’s online presence.
