The Center for New Leadership (CNL) at Marlboro College in Marlboro, Vt., has merged with Common Good Vermont (CGV), based in Burlington, Vt. The deal was orchestrated and funded by the A.D. Henderson Foundation and the Vermont Community Foundation.
The new operation will have offices in Marlboro and Burlington. Financial details were not disclosed.
“The services provided by CNL and Common Good Vermont complement each other beautifully,” Kate McGowan, who will be director of the combined entity, said via an announcement. CNL runs a Certificate in Nonprofit Management program and other training sessions. CGV is more of a resource center for the state’s nonprofit organizations. It also coordinates an annual Nonprofit Legislative Day.
McGowan continued via the announcement, “By consolidating, we will be able to serve the mission-driven sector throughout Vermont and provide a range of capacity-building training programs, from small, bite-sized webinars all the way to multi-month certificate programs. This range will allow an entry point for every budget and allow organizations and their valued staff to continue to grow and deepen their learning over time.”
Marlboro College will be the base of operations. “The merger and the success of our work together will create efficiencies within capacity-building services in Vermont and expand both organization’s reach to a larger statewide audience,” said Morgan Webster, of Common Good Vermont and will run the Burlington office, according to the announcement.
Vermont has more than 4,000 nonprofits and eclipses $4 billion in revenue. They contributed 18.7 percent to the state’s Gross State Product according to a 2011 report from the Vermont Community Foundation.
